We are now taking orders for the New Year, we are expecting a delivery in mid to late February.
The pig comes in two sizes;
The Standard, 58 x 23 x 34cms and is £335 incl of VAT & Posting.
The Medium, 70 x 29 x 40 cms and is £455 incl of VAT & Posting
It seems that the first pig came into being almost by accident when ‘Old Bill’, who made hand luggage from pigskin, wondered what could be done with the leather that was left over.
He came up with the idea of a stuffed leather pig footstool which he sold through Liberty’s of Regent Street, London in 1927. Liberty’s has stocked the animal ever since. In those days the pigs were made using pigskin and had very long noses! This is a picture of one on our "Old Friends" page.
The animals are hand crafted from English full grain cowhide specifically produced for Omersa. Inside each animal there is a sturdy steel and wooden frame. Fine compressed woodwool is packed by hand around the frame and is used to build up the features of the animal. As each piece of leather responds differently to this hand crafting process no two animals are ever alike. The leather is hand stained, waxed and polished to achieve a luxurious rich brown antique finish.
