A Grand Day Out in The Vale of Glamorgan

28th October 2011

The Regional Furniture Society and the Furniture History Society are the two organisations who are truly passionate about their subject. The society membership extends all over the world, numbering about 1700 people.

25 members from both societies came to Cowbridge last Saturday. Philip & Andrew had arranged for the group to start at our shop with coffee & welshcakes (courtesy of Aunty Gwenllian) and to see a small exhibition of Welsh domestic furniture, including a preview of the Gower Coffer Bach quartet. Phil wrote about these coffers some 20 years ago in the FHS Journal, so they hold a special place for him.

After that they set of to see a  A Great House, a Church, a Farm & a Plas. It is always such a treat to be allowed to visit private collections, and the group were bowled over by the contents
of the houses. Giving a very broad flavour of Wales, and a very warm welcome was extended
to the group.

After a day of Welshness the group dispersed returning to all parts of the UK.
