A rare late 17th c/early 18thc Close Stool Return to category
This box is a wonderful conversation stopper, ideal as a table, useful small size,
A Close Stool is a quaint name for a what we might now as a commode.
Once it would have had a wooden frame which would have housed a top hat shaped pewter potty. The Close Stool was really only used by the gentry.
The rest would have used a communal privy or just any doorway or corner that was handy.
The box has replaced hinges, and three of the toes have been re-tipped.
