Antique Carved oak Coffer, mid/late 17th century Return to category

This splendid coffer has survived in glorious condition which is amazing considering it was made when Charles II was on the throne.

The lid has four panels but the front has the unusual feature of just two, which are  crisply and confidently carved. This bold detail is made more striking using original black pigment which has also been used on the channel mouldings. The drawer below has a guilloche carved front.
