A George III mahogany & chequer strung & banded Night TableReturn to category

An elegant piece with perhaps a not very elegant original use! Yes, now a bedside cupboard, with a sliding lower section that contained the pot.
Quite shocking to us, but in the 18th century it was considered very smart and an essential part to everyday living.
Beautifully made with lots of expensive detailing; the choice mahogany veneers and chequer stringing. It would sit well in todays home.

Incidentally, pairs of cupboards are not the norm, they do exist, but are incredibly rare. Besides, today we prefer the non matched, relaxed look.
