It’s been a lifelong love affair with antiques for Philip and Christine Havard.
Brought up in rural Wales, they both learned to appreciate the beauty and practicality of the Welsh furniture they grew up with.
Even as a small boy, Philip could be found at Breconshire farm sales inspecting oak chairs and dressers.
He studied Fine Art Auctioneering at Southampton and then joined Phillips Auctioneers in Cardiff as a furniture specialist.
It’s here he met Christine who had moved from Phillips in Bath back home to open the auctioneer’s salerooms in South Wales.
Establishing a reputation for their knowledge of antiques, the couple opened Havard & Havard in the market town of Cowbridge on St David’s Day, 1992.
Their cleverly designed showroom – with its creative displays both inside and out in the garden - sits easily amongst the individual and personally run shops, bars and restaurants that help bring flair and vitality to the area.
Philip and Christine are now firmly established as specialists within the world of antique furniture. They offer expert guidance on individual items – and also advise on the styling of both period and modern interiors, helping to create comfortable and tasteful homes that reflect personality and style.
The couple are both LAPADA and CINOA members – the Association of Art & Antique Dealers, which is the UK’s largest trade association for professional dealers. Customers can buy with confidence from members who adhere to a strict Code of Practice.
